Spartans down Miners in boys’ soccer

North Schuylkill 3, Minersville 1 — Zack Marcinowski’s goal in the 30th minute broke a 1-1 tie and propelled the Spartans to a non-league victory over the Miners at Ghosh Orthodontics Field at Spartan Stadium.

North Schuylkill’s Max Helwig opened the scoring in the 22nd minute off an assist by Marcinowski. Minersville tied it in the 29th minute when Jordan Bowers put home an assist by Cam Rodgers.

Marcinowski put the Spartans (8-5 overall) back on top less than a minute later off an assist by Brady Welker to give North Schuylkill a 2-1 halftime lead. Wyatt Zendrosky gave the Spartans some insurance when he converted an assist by Evan Damiter for a goal in the 64th minute.

Robert McGrath had seven saves for Minersville (9-5), while North Schuylkill’s Kaden Onuschak stopped three saves.

Shenandoah Valley 5, Pottsville 0 — Ayden Zamudio recorded a natural hat trick in the first half as the Blue Devils stormed past the Tide in a non-league match at Alumni Field.

Joan Menjivar added a goal and two assists for Shenandoah Valley (14-1), while Sam Mentusky tallied a goal and an assist. Caleb Campos stopped all four Pottsville (1-11-1) shots to get the shutout win for the Devils.

Tri-Valley 4, Salem Christian 1 — At Allentown, Nathan Hillard netted a pair of goals and had an assist as the Dawgs (7-5-1) topped Salem Christian (4-5-2) in a non-league match.

Lukas Ruch and Tyler Mowery also scored for Tri-Valley, while Ruch and Dawson Neugard had assists. Brayden Leese stopped two shots in goal for the Dawgs.

Blue Mountain 5, ELCO 2 — Shawn Batory scored three times and had an assist as the Eagles topped the Raiders in a non-league contest at the Eagles’ Nest.

Drew Waschko scored twice for Blue Mountain (8-5-1), which led 4-1 at intermission. Caden Wargo stopped five shots in net for the Eagles.

Girls’ Soccer

Blue Mountain 1, Tulpehocken 0 — Lexi Waschko scored the game’s only goal in the second half as the Eagles (7-5) blanked the Trojans in a non-league match Friday at the Eagles’ Nest.

Hailey Scheuer assisted on Waschko’s goal. Makayla Keck pitched the shutout, making five saves in net.

North Schuylkill 4, Tri-Valley 2 — Lilah Helwig notched a pair of goals as North Schuylkill outlasted Tri-Valley in a non-league match.

Helwig scored 11:31 into the contest off an assist by Mylee Bindie, then tallied an unassisted goal in the second half. Addie Urban had a goal and an assist for the Spartans (10-2), with her goal at 25:26 breaking a 1-1 tie. Jillian Murray scored North Schuylkill’s fourth goal, while Maddie Moyer made two saves in net.

Maggie Hoffman-Long scored off a corner kick for Tri-Valley (7-4), while Cassie Snyder tallied a second-half goal. Maddy Schwalm made eight saves for the Dawgs.

Girls’ Volleyball

Panther Valley 3, Pocono Mountain West 0 — Emma Dacey had three kills and 11 digs, including the 500th dig of her career, as the Panthers swept Pocono Mountain West 25-14, 25-16, 25-10 in a non-league match Saturday.

Caroline Breslin added 18 digs for Panther Valley (10-2), while Abby Benack dished out 14 assists and seven digs.

Pocono Mountain West won JV 2-0.

Pottsville 3, Whitehall 0 — Lainey Dusel had 14 kills and eight digs as the Tide rolled past the Zephyrs 25-12, 25-12, 25-12 in a non-league contest at Martz Hall.

Megan Yost tallied 31 assists and 10 digs for Pottsville (12-2), while Anna Burke notched six kills, three blocks, three digs and two aces.

Pottsville won JV 2-0.

Upper Dauphin 3, Williams Valley 0 — Audrina Fry had six kills, four digs and two blocks as the Vikings dropped a non-league contest to the Trojans 25-8, 25-10, 25-21 in Elizabethville.

Emily Miller had eight digs and Naomi Carl recorded three assists and four aces for Williams Valley (2-10). Kasey Weibley paced Upper Dauphin with eight kills and six aces, while Ella Griffith collected four kills and three aces.

Upper Dauphin won JV 2-0.
