Nativity shuts out Shenandoah Valley
Nativity's Noah Dolbin caught four passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns Friday night against Shenandoah Valley.
SAINT CLAIR — Nativity has had some easy wins in the 2024 season, and Friday’s Schuylkill/Colonial Blue Division game against Shenandoah Valley was no different.
The Green Wave once again put an opponent away early and walked away with a 50-0 victory over the Blue Devils in their Homecoming game at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
It’s for that reason that Nativity coach Pat Mason is trying to prevent his team from growing a sense of complacency knowing there will be tougher challenges in the remaining games.
“It’s about executing plays, and I don’t care if our third team is in the game,” Mason said. “I think we had a couple of breakdowns when we had our second and third guys in there. They’re looking for opportunities to play, and I’m looking for them to be good players. But this is a good group of kids we have, and I think we’re playing really well right now.”
Nativity (5-1, 4-1 Blue) established its dominance just two plays into the game after the opening kickoff when quarterback Ben Kreitzer hooked up on pass plays of 36 and 41 yards to Noah Dolbin for a 7-0 lead just over a minute into the game.
Kreitzer ended up completing 4-of-4 passes for 163 yards, with all going to Dolbin.
“Dolbin is obviously an elite player,” Mason said. “We’re going to try to put the ball into his hands. We have a really nice mix of passing and running this year.”
The Green Wave’s running game got going for their next touchdown on a 56-yard scoring run by Sam Spolski for a 14-0 lead with 8:34 remaining in the first quarter.
Then Kretizer once again connected with Dolbin for a 64-yard scoring pass with 1:57 remaining in the first quarter for a 21-0 advantage.
Nativity closed the opening frame with two points for a 23-0 lead when Shenandoah Valley (0-6, 0-5 Blue) snapped a potential punt out of the end zone for a safety.
The second quarter featured three more Nativity touchdowns, with all coming on runs: a 32-yard scamper by Michael Stank, and runs of 1 and 46 yards by Sam Walborn. Spolski and Walborn rushed for 82 and 58 yards, respectively.
“If a team tries to stack the box to stuff our run, it means you have to single-cover Dolbin,” Mason said. “If they do that, then you get the result you get.”
The Green Wave capped the scoring with a 70-yard scoring run by Nick Wagner in the fourth quarter.
