Local roundup: Tri-Valley sweeps Nativity in Division II volleyball showdown

Girls’ Volleyball

Tri-Valley 3, Nativity 0 — The Dawgs scored an impressive Schuylkill League Division II road victory by sweeping past the Green Wave 27-25, 25-23, 25-11 atop Lawton’s Hill.

Callie Melocheck collected 32 assists and 12 digs for Tri-Valley, while Kylie Clemmer had 12 service points and five digs and Faith Melocheck and Ellie Dunkelberger each had eight kills. The victory moves Tri-Valley (8-2 D-II) into sole possession of second place in the Division II standings, one game behind division-leading Marian (9-1).

Sara Spolski led Nativity (7-3 D-II) with 11 digs and eight kills. Julianna Carlson had 10 kills, three blocks and five digs, while Morgan Howell had 13 digs.

Tri-Valley won JV 2-1. 

Panther Valley 3, Pine Grove 0 — Morgan Orsulak had nine kills, 21 assists and eight digs as the Panthers swept the Cardinals 25-13, 25-11, 25-14 in a Division I contest.

Jaelynn Browdy added 10 kills, seven digs and two assists for Panther Valley (8-2 D-I), while Jessica Haskash had five kills. Domani Collazo had 15 kills and two blocks to pace Pine Grove (5-5 D-I), while Mary Fertig had 11 assists and Hannah Leininger had 13 digs.

Pine Grove won JV 2-0.

Blue Mountain 3, Tamaqua 0 — At Orwigsburg, Jaedyn Bartholomew recorded 11 kills, 10 aces and three digs as the Eagles topped the Blue Raiders 25-14, 25-10, 25-19 in a Division I contest.

Isabella Grasso dished out 22 assists for Blue Mountain (7-3 D-I), while Tess Krasnay had 21 digs. Millie Black had three kills, five digs and three blocks for Tamaqua (0-10 D-I), while Isidora Neifert had four digs and Madison Schock collected five assists.

Blue Mountain won JV 2-0.

Pottsville 3, Lourdes 0 — Rhyan Brennan had four kills, four digs and six aces as the Crimson Tide cruised past the Red Raiders 25-7, 25-10, 25-11 in Shamokin.

Brooklyn Reinert added five digs and two aces for Pottsville (10-0 D-I), while Carly Demcher had five digs. Anna Krebs had five assists and seven digs for Lourdes (2-7 D-I), while Ella Kerris had four kills and seven digs.

Pottsville won JV 2-0.

Mahanoy Area 3, North Schuylkill 0 — Lexi Chilinskas had 18 assists, including the 500th of her career, as the Golden Bears defeated the Spartans 25-18, 25-16, 25-9 in a Division I clash at Fountain Springs.

Caylin Blashock collected six kills and four blocks and Carly Honus had five kills and five digs for Mahanoy Area (6-4 D-I). Brigid Flynn, Kyla Carado and Emily Walsh each had three kills for North Schuylkill (1-8 D-I), while Flynn had two blocks and two digs and Walsh had three blocks.

Mahanoy Area won JV 2-0.

Minersville 3, Williams Valley 0 — Ayla Castle dished out 13 assists, including the 1,000th of her career, as the Miners downed the Vikings 25-21, 25-17, 25-16 in a Division II contest in Fitzpatrick Gymnasium.

Hailey Croley added five kills, three blocks, two aces and two digs for Minersville (5-4 D-II), while Lydia Harris had two aces, five kills, two assists and three digs.

Emily Miller led Williams Valley (2-7 D-II) with six kills, two aces and six digs, while Naomi Carl served eight aces and had nine digs and four assists and Audrina Fry had two kills and six digs.

Williams Valley won JV 2-1.

Schuylkill Haven 3, Weatherly 0 — Karlee Feger notched 14 kills and had seven digs as the Hurricanes rolled past the Wreckers 25-8, 25-12, 25-20 in a Division II match at the CACL Center.

Jolynn Ross collected 21 assists, four aces and six digs for Schuylkill Haven (6-3 D-II), while Teagan Wehr compiled seven aces, five digs, two kills and nine assists.

Rachel Rosenlund had three service points and nine assists for Weatherly (1-8 D-II), while Kelly Reiner tallied three service points, two aces and two kills and Abby Binder had two service points and five kills.

Marian 3, Shenandoah Valley 0 — Kali Grochowski recorded nine kills and four aces as the Fillies beat the Blue Devils 25-9, 25-11, 25-16 in a Division II contest in Shenandoah.

Alena Lombardo added six kills and three blocks for Marian (9-1 D-II), while Eris Hayes had 23 assists, five aces and three kills and Zoe Katona had three kills and two digs.

Brittany Tufts had four assists and seven digs for Shenandoah Valley (0-10 D-II), while Morgan Labosky had three kills, four digs and five blocks and Brianna Gulden had 10 digs.

Marian won JV 2-1.

Girls’ Soccer

Schuylkill Haven 4, Tri-Valley 0 — Taylor Haag scored all four goals as the Hurricanes blanked the Dawgs in a Schuylkill League Division II match at Rotary Field.

Haag scored moments into the game to put Haven up 1-0, but good Tri-Valley (2-2 D-II) defense kept the game at that score into halftime. Haag then erupted in the second half for three more goals as Schuylkill Haven (8-0 D-II) pulled away.

Pine Grove 6, Tamaqua 0 — Viktorya Luckenbach recorded a natural hat trick as the Cardinals cruised past the Blue Raiders in a Division I contest at Cardinal Stadium.

Luckenbach scored with 53 seconds left in the first half to give Pine Grove (6-2 D-I) a 3-0 halftime lead, then scored two goals 53 seconds apart in the second half to break the game open.

Gianna Pompei added a goal and an assist for Pine Grove, while Riley Ott and Meadow Umbenhauer also scored. Alyssa Moyer notched the shutout in goal with eight saves for the Cards, while Veronica Scott had 11 saves for Tamaqua (2-5 D-I).

Minersville 4, Halifax 0 — Grace Sterner tallied two goals and assisted on another as the Miners blanked the Wildcats in a non-league contest at Halifax.

Sterner scored twice in the first half to give Minersville a 2-0 lead, then Hope Motuk scored twice in the second half. Olivia Kopinetz made 10 saves to notch the shutout in goal for the Miners.

 

Boys’ Soccer

Shenandoah Valley 7, Williams Valley 1 — At Williamstown, Ayden Zamudio had five goals as the Blue Devils stayed unbeaten in Division II play with a rout of the Vikings.

Joan Menjivar and Sam Mentusky also scored for Shenandoah Valley (9-0 D-II), which outshot Williams Valley 24-5. John Rautzahn tallied the lone goal for the Vikings (3-6 D-II) at the 46-minute mark to slice Shenandoah Valley’s lead to 2-1 at that point, but the Devils closed the match with five straight goals.

Caleb Campos made four saves in net for Shenandoah Valley, while Owen Mace and Dawson Brennan combined to stop 17 shots for Williams Valley.

Tri-Valley 9, Weatherly 2 — At Hegins, Lukas Ruch scored four goals and had an assist as the Dawgs decked the Wreckers in a Division II match at Bulldog Stadium.

Nathan Hillard had three goals and four assists for Tri-Valley (5-3 D-II), while Zaiden Shiffer and Ben Neiswender added goals and Mason Sims and Peyton Fenstermacher tallied assists. Corbin Wagner and T. Higgins scored for Weatherly (1-8 D-II).

Blue Mountain 5, North Schuylkill 0 — At the Eagles’ Nest, Shawn Batory had two goals and two assists to lead Blue Mountain to a Division I victory over North Schuylkill.

Blake Batory, Dylan Knittle and Drew Waschko added a goal apiece for the Eagles (7-1-1 D-I). Sean Gaddy tallied one assist.

Caden Wargo made two saves to post the shutout for Blue Mountain; Kaden Onuschak stopped 11 shots for North Schuylkill (6-3 D-I).

Blue Mountain won the JV match 5-0.

In other Schuylkill League boys’ soccer action Thursday, Pine Grove topped Pottsville 5-1, Tamaqua blanked Marian 5-0 and Minersville downed Nativity 9-0.
