The Blue Mountain All-Sports Hall of Fame will induct eight new members Friday during ceremonies at halftime of the Blue Mountain vs. Bangor football game at the Eagles’ Nest.

A gathering for new inductees, their families and current Hall of Fame members will be held before and during the game on the stadium grounds, and a reception will be held after the game at Roman Delight Restaurant on Route 61.

Chosen by a vote of the Hall of Fame members, the Class of 2024 consists of the following: Amanda Bedway Adams, Class of 2004, tennis; Stephanie Shaner, Class of 1991, basketball, volleyball, softball; Joshua Miller, Class of 1996, football, track and field, wrestling; James Moore Jr., Class of 2008, football, track and field; Abigail Fanelli, Class of 2016, basketball, soccer, track and field; Scott Thomas, Class of 2005, swimming, track and field; James Laubenstein, Class of 1970, wrestling, football; and Larry Borden, honorary, golf coach.

Amanda Bedway Adams

Bedway Adams graduated from Blue Mountain in 2004. She was a standout on the tennis court, earning four varsity letters playing at the No. 1 position for three years in both singles and doubles. She reached the District 11 doubles finals for three years and was a PIAA state doubles qualifier her freshman year. She holds the school record for most singles wins at 72.

Following graduation from Blue Mountain, Bedway Adams continued her tennis career at the Philadelphia University of The Sciences, graduating in 2010 with a Doctorate in Pharmacy degree. She played on the varsity tennis team for four years, three of those years at the No. 1 position for singles and doubles. She has been inducted into the University’s Hall of Fame.

She resides in Orwigsburg with her husband and three children. After an initial career in pharmacy, she is now involved with the family business, Bedway Fresh Fruits.

Abigail Fanelli

A 2016 Blue Mountain graduate, Fanelli excelled on the basketball and soccer teams, earning four letters in each.

On the basketball court, she was a four-year starter at guard and was a career 1,000-point scorer. She was selected to the Republican-Herald All-Area second team in her junior year and to the first team in her senior year.

In soccer, Fanelli was a four-year starter at midfielder and defender. She was selected to the Schuylkill League All-Star first team for three years and the Republican-Herald All-Area first team her senior year.

She also earned one letter in track and field, running on the 4×100- and 4×400-meter relays, earning a silver medal at the Schuylkill League Championships.

After graduating from Blue Mountain, Fanelli played for the Wilkes University varsity soccer team for two years, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 2020.

She resides in Tremont, is a nurse at the Milton Hershey Medical Center Neuroscience Critical Care Unit and is pursuing a doctorate degree in the Geisinger/Bloomsburg Nurse Anesthetist program.

James Laubenstein

Laubenstein graduated from Blue Mountain in 1970, earning five varsity letters, two in wrestling and three on the football team.

As a wrestler, his career record was 41-7 with 16 pins, going 17-1 his senior year in the 138-pound weight class. He was Tri-County League champion for two years and was a District 11 champion in his senior year. He was selected to the Reading Eagle Lower Anthracite Wrestling Team for two years.

On the football team, he started at offensive guard for three years and was named to the Schuylkill County All-Scholastic Team.

After graduation, Laubenstein was employed as a heavy equipment operator for many years. He is retired and lives in Harvey’s Lake with his family.

Joshua Miller

Graduating from Blue Mountain in 1996, Miller earned a total of 11 varsity letters.

Earning four letters on the track and field team, he participated primarily in hurdles and sprints. He was a three-time league champion in the 110-meter high hurdles, earning gold and silver medals at the District 11 meet, and was a two-time PIAA state meet qualifier. Miller held the school records for this event for 28 years. In the 100-meter dash, Miller was a three-time league medalist and a District 11 bronze medalist.

On the football team, he was a four-year starter on both offense and defense and was selected to the All-Anthracite Team once.

As a wrestler, he was a two-time medalist at the Schuylkill League Championships, a three-year District 11 qualifier and was selected as a Top 100 Wrestler in Pennsylvania his senior year.

After graduating from Blue Mountain, Miller graduated with honors from Penn State University and obtained a Master’s Degree from Goucher College. He has been employed in the medical sales field since 2005 and resides in York with his wife and young son.

James Moore Jr.

A 2008 Blue Mountain graduate, Moore Jr. earned four varsity letters in football. He was a four-year starter at guard and linebacker and was co-captain of the 2007 District 11 championship team. He was a three-time Republican-Herald All-Area selection, earning first-team honors his senior year at linebacker. In his senior year, he was also selected as a first-team guard and linebacker for the Berks Inter-County League. He was selected as Reading Eagle All-Anthracite Lineman of the Year and SCFCA Defensive Co-Player of the Year. Culminating his honors, Moore Jr. was selected to play offensive guard in the 2008 Pennsylvania East-West All-Star Game.

He also earned two letters in track and field, earning a silver medal in shot put at the Schuylkill League Championships in his senior year.

After graduating, Moore Jr. played football at Wilkes University, where he was a four-year starter on defense.

He graduated from Wilkes in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and is a licensed professional engineer with Lehigh Engineering in Pottsville. Moore Jr. resides in Wayne Township with his wife and three children.

Stephanie Shaner

Shaner is a 1991 Blue Mountain graduate, excelling in multiple sports and earning eight varsity letters.

She was a three-year participant on the varsity volleyball and basketball teams, serving as team captain for each. Playing guard on the basketball team, she led the team into the District 11 playoffs in her senior year and was selected for the Senior All-Star Charity Game.

Shaner also played on the softball team for three years at third base and center field and served as team captain.

Following graduation, Shaner attended Kutztown University, where she graduated with a degree in psychology. She served with Schuylkill Women in Crisis as an advocate for several years, spent many years coaching various youth sports and is owner of the Summit View Restaurant.

Shaner and her family reside in Lake Wynonah.

Scott Thomas

Graduating from Blue Mountain in 2005, Thomas left his mark in the swimming team record books. Earning four varsity letters, Thomas competed in multiple individual events, including 200-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard individual medley. He also swam in various relay events, including the 200-yard freestyle, 400-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley.

Thomas earned 13 career medals at the Schuylkill League Championships, including eight gold, four silver and one bronze. His career District 11 medals include three gold, three silver and one bronze. He qualified for the PIAA state meet three years, earning an eighth-place medal his senior year, and other recognition for 12^th-, 13^th– and 14^th-place finishes.

Thomas was twice named to the Pennsylvania All-State Swim Team for the 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. He scored more than 1,000 career points and was twice named Schuylkill League Male Swimmer of the Year. Upon graduation, he held four individual school records and two relay records.

Thomas also earned two letters for the Blue Mountain track and field team, competing in the 800-meter run and 4×800-meter relay.

After graduating from Blue Mountain, Thomas enrolled at the University of Rhode Island, where he swam for one year, earning Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week Honors. He concluded his swimming career at Kutztown University, where he swam for three years, being named as KU Male Scholar Athlete of the Year.

After graduating from Kutztown, Thomas went on to obtain Master’s of Engineering and MBA degrees from Lehigh University. He is employed with Amazon as an Operations Manager.

Thomas resides in Kutztown with his wife and three boys.

Larry Borden

Borden is an Honorary Inductee, a category reserved for those who have made lasting contributions to the Blue Mountain athletics legacy. He achieved this distinction for his efforts and dedication in many years as coach of the Blue Mountain golf team.

Borden served as golf team coach for 20 years, from 1999 to 2019. During his tenure, the team won 17 Schuylkill League Championships and the District 11 team championship in 2010. His overall coaching record at Blue Mountain is 374-19.

Numerous Blue Mountain golf team members earned Schuylkill League and District 11 medals under his guidance.

Borden is a 1977 graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School, where he lettered in basketball and track and field. He was also on the Schuylkill Haven golf team for two years, winning the Schuylkill League individual championship in 1977.

Borden served as the golf professional at the Schuylkill Country Club for 37 years until his retirement in 2021.

He resides in South Manheim Township with his family.
