Eagles capture Division I golf title

ORWIGSBURG — Dylan Knittle carded a 6-over-par 78 to lead the way as Blue Mountain defeated Pottsville 343-368 on Thursday at Schuylkill Country Club to capture the Schuylkill League Division I golf title.

Both the Eagles (9-1 league) and Crimson Tide (8-2 league) have qualified for the four-team Schuylkill League Golf Team Championships to be held Monday at Schuylkill Country Club, joining Division II champion Schuylkill Haven and Division II runner-up Nativity.

Action Monday, which begins at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start, will feature the boys’ individual championship, girls’ individual championship and team championship.

Girls’ Volleyball

Panther Valley 3, Tamaqua 0 — Morgan Orsulak compiled 11 aces, seven kills, 15 assists and two digs as the Panthers downed the Blue Raiders 25-9, 25-9, 25-5 in a Schuylkill League Division I match.

Natalie Vermillion added seven kills and two aces for Panther Valley (5-1 D-I), while Emma Dacey had five aces and five digs. Panther Valley won JV 2-0.

Leah Black had 12 digs, Madison Schock had three kills and four digs and Millie Black tallied three digs and two blocks for Tamaqua (0-6 D-I).

Nativity 3, Weatherly 0 — Atop Lawton’s Hill, Julianna Carlson notched 17 kills and had five blocks as the Green Wave swept the Wreckers 25-14, 25-19, 25-14 in a Division II contest.

Sara Spolski added six digs, five kills and five aces for Nativity (5-1 D-II), while Addison Ricard had 26 assists, four digs, three kills and four aces. Rachel Rosenlund had nine assists, Kelly Reiner tallied four kills and four aces, and Abby Weston had five digs and two blocks for Weatherly (1-5 D-II).

Pottsville 3, North Schuylkill 0 — At Fountain Springs, Lainey Dusel had 11 kills and four digs as the Tide rolled past the Spartans 25-9, 25-9, 25-11 in a Schuylkill League Division I match.

Rhyan Brennan added nine kills, two blocks and three digs for Pottsville (6-0 D-I), while Ava Schwartz had six kills and three aces. Kyla Carado had three kills and Brigid Flynn had seven digs for North Schuylkill (1-4 D-I). Pottsville won JV 2-0.

Tri-Valley 3, Schuylkill Haven 0 — Liv Lupole had 12 kills and six digs as the Dawgs swept the Hurricanes 25-8, 25-13, 25-15 in a Schuylkill League Division II match in Hegins.

Faith Melocheck added three aces and five kills for Tri-Valley (5-1 D-II), while Ellie Dunkelberger had four kills. Jolynn Ross dished out 16 assists, Teagan Wehr had 14 digs and Karlee Feger tallied eight digs and five kills for Schuylkill Haven (3-3 D-II).

Tri-Valley won JV 2-0.

Mahanoy Area 3, Lourdes 0 — At Mahanoy City, Caylin Blashock compiled 10 kills, four blocks and two aces as the Golden Bears downed the Red Raiders 25-13, 25-18, 25-18 in a Division I clash.

Lexi Chilinskas had 14 assists for Mahanoy Area (4-2 D-I), while Hailey Mroczka collected two aces, three kills and 13 digs. Anna Keer paced Lourdes (1-4 D-I) with seven kills and seven digs, while Anna Krebs had 10 assists and seven digs and Corrine Feese had 11 digs.

Mahanoy Area won JV 2-0.

Blue Mountain 3, Pine Grove 0 — At Pine Grove, Jaedyn Bartholomew had 11 kills, seven digs and five blocks as the Eagles swept the Cardinals 25-18, 25-22, 25-22 in a Division I contest.

Isabella Grasso dished out 22 assists and collected 10 digs for Blue Mountain (4-2 D-I), while Tess Krasny had 13 digs. Lily Flynn led Pine Grove (2-4 D-I) with eight kills, five digs and two aces, while Domani Collazo had seven kills, eight digs and three blocks, and Molly Drumheller tallied 13 digs.

Pine Grove won JV 2-0.

Marian 3, Minersville 0 — At Hometown, Alena Lombardo notched nine kills and had three blocks as the Fillies swept the Miners 25-17, 25-13, 25-15 in a Division II match.

Isabella Horvat compiled four kills, two aces and five digs for Marian (5-1 D-II), while Lara Cancio had five kills and three aces and Caydense Smith had six digs and two aces.

For Minersville (3-3 D-II), Ayla Castle had 10 assists and five digs, Camryn Colna had three kills and four digs and Hailey Croley collected three kills and five digs.

Marian won JV 2-0.

Williams Valley 3, Shenandoah Valley 2 — Emily Miller filled the stat sheet with 10 kills, 10 aces and 18 digs as the Vikings outlasted the Blue Devils 25-17, 23-25, 25-19, 20-25, 15-12 in a Division II marathon in Shenandoah.

Naomi Carl also had a big night with 10 assists, eight aces and 10 digs for Williams Valley (2-4 D-II), while Gabrielle Duprez had three kills, three aces and five digs.

Kaye Lynn Sheehan compiled 18 service points, five kills and six digs for Shenandoah Valley (0-6 D-II), with Aubrie Monaghan adding 13 points, four aces and two kills and Aubrey Getz collecting 12 digs. Shenandoah Valley won JV 2-1.

Girls’ Soccer

Pine Grove 2, Minersville 1 — Hannah Aungst scored in the first overtime to lift the Cardinals past the Miners at Cardinal Stadium.

Viktorya Luckenbach’s goal with 15:21 left in the game broke the scoreless deadlock and gave Pine Grove a 1-0 lead. Minersville answered three minutes later when Emily Yoder scored off a Jenna Cullen assist, and the team then went to overtime.

Liv Kopinetz made five saves in the net for Minersville. Alyssa Moyer stopped two shots for Pine Grove.

Boys’ Soccer

Tri-Valley 5, Minersville 0 — Lukas Ruch scored twice and Nathan Hillard had a goal and two assists as the Dawgs blanked the Miners in a Division II contest in Hegins.

Tyler Mowery and Garett Leitzel also tallied goals for Tri-Valley (3-2 D-II), while Dalton Leitzel and Garett Leitzel added assists. Brayden Leese notched the shutout with six saves for the Dawgs. Haslam had nine saves for the Miners (4-1 D-II).

North Schuylkill 6, Marian 0 — At Hometown, the Spartans got six first-half goals from six different players en route to a Division I win over the Colts.

Brady Welker, Noah James, Max Helwig, Austin Corrigan, Gage Reidler and Aaron Brayford all scored for North Schuylkill (3-2 D-I), which compiled 28 shots. Zack Marcinowski had two assists.

Jake Tom had 14 saves and Cael Romanchik stopped eight shots for the Colts (2-4 D-I). Kaden Onuschak pitched the shutout for North Schuylkill with five saves.

Shenandoah Valley 10, Nativity 0 — At Shenandoah, Joan Menjivar notched two goals and four assists to lead Shenandoah Valley to a Division II victory.
Sam Mentusky netted two goals, while Ayden Zamudio added one goal and two assists for the Blue Devils (8-1, 5-0 D-II), who broke the game open with seven second-half goals.

Derik Silva, Antonio Ruiz, Danny Paniagua, Chris Meza and Dillon Teter also found the back of the net for Shenandoah Valley.

Emmalee Pinkey made 16 saves for Nativity (1-6, 1-4).
