Tide, Eagles clinch golf playoff spots

The four-team field for the Schuylkill League Golf Championships is set.

Pottsville and Blue Mountain clinched their spots Tuesday with victories, claiming the two berths from Division I. The Tide beat North Schuylkill 341-368, while Blue Mountain downed Panther Valley 316-379. Both teams have 8-1 league records and will square off Thursday at Schuylkill Country Club for the division title.

Pottsville and Blue Mountain will join Division II champion Schuylkill Haven and Division II runner-up Nativity in the four-team battle for league team honors during Monday’s Schuylkill League Golf Championships at Schuylkill Country Club. Action begins Monday with a 10 a.m. shotgun start.

Boys’ Soccer

Pine Grove 3, North Schuylkill 0 — At Fountain Springs, Quinn Brommer had a goal and an assist as the Cardinals blanked the Spartans in a Division I game at Ghosh Orthodontics Field at Spartan Stadium.

Brommer scored in the 24th minute. Tanner Kolb made it 2-0 in the 64th before Brommer fed Kale Lengle one minute later to make it 3-0.

Payton Renninger pitched the shutout with two saves for Pine Grove. Kaden Onuschak stopped 15 shots for North Schuylkill.

Tri-Valley 3, Williams Valley 1 — At Hegins, Nathan Hillard and Tyler Mowery each tallied a goal and an assist as the Dawgs outlasted the Vikings in a Division II match.

Dalton Leitzel also scored for Tri-Valley off an assist by Garett Leitzel. John Rautzahn netted Williams Valley’s only goal.

Brayden Leese made four saves for Tri-Valley, while Owen Mace had five stops for the Vikes.

Girls’ Volleyball

Mahanoy Area 3, Blue Mountain 0 — At Orwigsburg, Hailey Mroczka had three kills and 16 digs and Caylin Blashock notched eight kills and two aces as the Golden Bears beat the Eagles 25-16, 26-24, 25-17 in a Division I contest.

Yehlina Reyes added 18 digs for Mahanoy Area. Jaedyn Bartholomew had 10 kills and 14 digs for Blue Mountain, while Madison Gerlott tallied eight kills and Isabella Grasso dished out 22 assists and had three digs. Mahanoy Area won JV 2-0.

Tri-Valley 3, Williams Valley 0 — Aubrianna Zimmerman compiled five aces and six kills as the Dawgs swept the Vikings 25-9, 25-6, 25-22 in a Division II match.

Emma Moore had five kills and Callie Melochick compiled 33 assists for Tri-Valley. Gabrielle Duprez and Brooke Beddia each had six kills, Duprez had eight digs and Emily Miller added three kills and five digs for Williams Valley. Tri-Valley won JV 2-0.

Panther Valley 3, Lourdes 0 — Jaelynn Browdy had three aces, six kills and four assists as the Panthers swept the Red Raiders 25-6, 25-11, 25-13 in a Division I contest.

Emma Dacey added eight kills and three digs, while Abby Benack had eight assists for Panther Valley. Anna Keer had 12 kills, nine digs and two blocks for Lourdes, while Anna Krebs compiled 15 assists and five digs and Corrine Feese collected 14 digs. PV won JV 2-0.

Pottsville 3, Pine Grove 0 — Megan Yost dished out 26 assist and had eight digs as the Tide downed the Cardinals 25-10, 25-14, 25-9 in a Division I match.

Anna Burke notched nine kills and Brooklyn Reinhart added seven digs for Pottsville. Domani Collazo had six kills and three blocks, Lily Flynn had two kills and Molly Drumheller had seven digs for Pine Grove. Pine Grove won JV 2-1.

North Schuylkill 3, Tamaqua 1 — Brigid Flynn served 11 aces and had four kills as the Spartans outlasted the Blue Raiders 25-18, 24-26, 25-15, 25-12 in a Division I contest.

Kyla Carado had six kills and Lauren Powis tallied six aces and five kills for North Schuylkill. Madison Schock had 13 aces and nine assists, Millie Black had seven kills and two aces and Leah Black collected four kills and five digs for Tamaqua. Tamaqua won JV 2-0.

Marian 3, Schuylkill Haven 0 — Isabella Horvat had eight kills, Kali Grochowski had seven kills and three aces and Alena Lombardo tallied four kills and four blocks as the Fillies beat the Hurricanes 25-16, 25-10, 25-13 in a Division II match.

Teagan Wehr had 16 digs for Schuylkill Haven, while Jolynn Ross had six digs and 13 assists and Karlee Feger collected five digs and five kills. Marian won JV 2-0.

Weatherly 3, Shenandoah Valley 2 — Kelly Reiner compiled seven aces, seven kills and five digs as the Wreckers outlasted the Blue Devils 25-20, 22-25, 23-25, 25-18, 15-11 in a Division II marathon.

Rachel Rosenlund dished out 12 assists and had three aces for Weatherly, while Abby Weston collected five aces, seven kills, five digs and six assists. Aubrie Monaghan had 11 service points, 15 digs and eight kills for Shenandoah Valley, while Jardin Karella had eight service points and six kills and Brittany Tufts tallied 12 digs and three assists.

Nativity 3, Minersville 0 — Julianna Carlson notched 14 kills and five blocks and Sara Spolski collected 11 kills, three aces and 13 digs as the Green Wave swept the Miners 25-20, 25-18, 25-14 in a Division II match.

Lily Baran added five kills for Nativity. Hailey Croley had three aces, five kills and 11 digs; Ayla Castle collected 10 assists and five digs; and Arianna John had three kills and four blocks for Minersville. Nativity won JV 2-0.
