North Schuylkill to induct 5 into football hall
FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — The North Schuylkill Football Hall of Fame will induct five new members as part of its 48th class during a halftime ceremony of Friday’s game against Notre Dame-Green Pond at Ghosh Orthodontics Field at Spartan Stadium.
The honorees include:
Class of 2024
Mason Geary
A 2018 graduate, Geary started three years at defensive end and tight end.
As a senior defensive end, he was selected first-team Anthracite Football League, Press Enterprise first team, Republican-Herald All-Area first team and News-Item All-Area first team. He was named T102 Player of the Game vs. Steelton-Highspire and recorded the WNEP “Play of the Week” against Shenandoah Valley during his senior year.
Geary also earned four varsity letters in track and field throwing the javelin, discus and shot put.
Geary graduated from Misericordia University where he studied biology and chemistry along with a degree in business administration. In 2023, Geary was inducted into the Misericordia University All-Decade Hall of Fame as a defensive end. During his career as a Cougar, Geary started in 36 games in which he compiled more than 170 career tackles, including 10 for a loss and four sacks. He also earned numerous awards at Misericordia, including being named a four-time MAC All-America Scholar.
Geary is employed by M&Q Packaging LLC as an administrative professional.
Jack Kempsey
A 2019 graduate, Kempsey earned three varsity letters at defensive end and offensive tackle.
As a junior, Kempsey was selected to the Schuylkill County Football Coaches Association first team as a defensive end and Hazleton Standard-Speaker All-Area team at offensive tackle and defensive end. A senior offensive tackle and captain, Kempsey was named PA Football Writers Class 3A All-State first team, All-EasternPAFootball.com first team and PAFootballNews.com Class 3A coach’s select All-State first team. As a senior, Kempsey was selected to play in the PSFCA East/West game.
Kempsey also earned varsity letters in basketball while at North Schuylkill.
He was a five-year member and three-year letterman in football at Lehigh University where he was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll twice.
Kempsey graduated with degrees in history and political science and is employed by the North Schuylkill School District as a secondary education science teacher.
Daniel Tomtishen
Tomtishen graduated in 2019, and he was a four-year starter on the offensive line, starting two years at offensive tackle and two years at offensive guard.
During his junior year, he was selected to the Republican-Herald All-Area second team. As a senior, Tomtishen was selected to the Schuylkill County Football Coaches Association All-Star first team and PA Football News All-Academic gold team.
Tomtishen is a graduate of Saint Joseph’s University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He is a territory candy salesman for the Hershey Company in the greater Philadelphia area.
Mitch Wagner
Wagner started for three years and graduated in 2019, earning four varsity letters at wide receiver/running back, kick/punt returner and free safety/linebacker.
A two-time team captain and class salutatorian, he was the North Schuylkill scholar-athlete recipient as a senior. Wagner was named T-102 Player of the Game five times, Hazleton Standard-Speaker All-Area team, including Athlete of the Week, and Schuylkill County Football Coaches Association All-Star team.
He was also a two-year letterman in baseball and four-year letterman in track as a member of three state-qualifying 4×100-meter relay teams.
Wagner played four years of football at Franklin and Marshall College from which he graduated with a degree in business. He earned numerous awards at F&M, including National Football Foundation Honor Society, Academic All-District teams and four-time Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll. As a senior at F&M, Wagner was named the Tom Gilburg Coaches’ Award recipient for embodying dedication, leadership and overall effort.
He is a member of the outside sales team at Conestoga Supply, a division of the Hajoca Corporation.
Honorary Inductee
Glenn H. Weist
The North Schuylkill Football Hall of Fame recognizes Weist as an honorary inductee for his enduring impact and extraordinary contributions to the football program.
For the past 16 years, Weist has been involved with the Spartan Football Half-Time Club. He is serving his 13th year as president. During his tenure, Weist has demonstrated unwavering commitment to the educational, personal and professional pursuits of student-athletes.
Weist’s leadership and dedication have significantly contributed to the overall success of the Spartan football program.
Weist graduated from North Schuylkill in 1988 before attending Bloomsburg University.
He is a general manager at Keystone Potato Products, LLC, in Hegins.
Weist has been a board member of the North Schuylkill School District since 2013 and also serves as a board member for the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29, Schuylkill Technology Centers and Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce.
